“Fine & Dandy”: The Music of Kay Swift
A classical fan and composer from early childhood, Kay Swift (1897-1993) was educated at Juilliard but later encouraged to write popular music by George Gershwin (1898-1937); she was his companion and trusted advisor in his final decade. The first woman to fully score a hit Broadway musical (Fine and Dandy, 1930), Swift composed other songs that became “standards.” We sample some of each musical genre at this gathering. Enjoy a bountiful buffet of hearty hors d’oeuvres and sides, then sample delectable desserts donated by area bakeries and restaurants. Score bargains in our Silent Auction including over two dozen 2-for-1 pairs of tickets to a wide variety of regional arts performances. Limited seating; $20-$35 suggested donation to support our season
